Prime Ministers Abbott and Modi released a joint statement following Mr Abbott’s successful two-day visit to Delhi and Mumbai in September 2014. The Prime Minister and Australians now look forward to welcoming Mr Modi to Australia in November – the first visit to Australia by an Indian Prime Minister in 28 years.

A delegation of 8 university students from the Faculty of Education at Monash University visit Banganga tank in Mumbai as part of a pilot project to immerse final year (students) pre-service student teachers in schools in Mumbai.

 

The Australian Consulate General hosted the Centenary ANZAC Day service on 25 April 2015 at the Convocation Hall at the University of Mumbai, Fort. ANZAC Day commemorates the service and sacrifice of those Australian and New Zealand service men and women who gave their lives for their countries in war. 

   

   

Acclaimed Australian author Christos Tsiolkas was in Mumbai to participate in a number of book reading sessions with book lovers and students from 26-28 January. The visit was supported by the Australian Consulate General and Australia-India Council.

The Prime Minister of Australia Tony Abbott visited Mumbai University on 4 September 2014 to announce the launch of the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan in India. The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government which aims to bring thousands of Australian undergraduates to Asia to undertake study and internships in the region.

Australia’s former Prime Minister, The Hon Julia Gillard, launched Oz Fest, the biggest Australian cultural festival ever staged in India, with a spectacular outdoor concert at the historic Purana Qila in New Delhi on 16 October 2012. From 16 October 2012 to 5 February 2013, Oz Fest showcased the creativity, dynamism and diversity of Australia through major events across 18 Indian cities focusing on Australian music, art, food, films, literature, dance, comedy and sport.

Former Australian Minister for Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government and Minister for the Arts conferred the ‘Member of the Order of Australia’ award to Sachin Tendulkar on 1 November 2012.

In celebration of 100 years of Indian cinema, Oz Fest and South Australia's OzAsia Festival co-commissioned a unique production to present to Indian and Australian audiences. “Fearless Nadia” was screened in India on 21 November 2012 at the historic art deco Liberty Cinema in Mumbai – the heart of Bollywood. Mr Amitabh Bachchan was the Guest of Honour at the event and the Hon Jay Weatherill MP, Premier of South Australia, was the Chief Guest.
