Scam Alert

We wish to alert all those registered with DFAT and Australians to be cautious of potential scams.

There are reports that Australians overseas and people holding valid Australian visa are being contacted by someone claiming to be from DFAT, or from the Australian Consulate in Mumbai, offering flights and requesting information like passport, visa, address and credit/debit card information.

DFAT will never request payment over the phone, or ask you to transfer funds to a bank account. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from DFAT seeking payment for one of these flights or any legal matter, please hang up.

Please also be advised third party Agents can NOT book your facilitated commercial flight to Australia. Do not make payment to an unknown agent promising to make a booking on your behalf.  Flight offers from DFAT are only offered to identified people registered with the Department.  DFAT provides the URL, and payments are processed only via Qantas.

DFAT advises you to exercise caution as there may be individuals or parties willing to take advantage of vulnerable people.
